Poker Tactics: Playing the Draw

There are a lot of things that one has to consider when playing the draw in Poker. Too often, players simply take it for granted and the result is that they commit a lot of money to the pot and lose. However, there are ways you can avoid this, chiefly by playing smart on the draw.

First off, a key to any successful Poker strategy involves more than just looking at your hand, but also at the drawing habits of the other players on the table. If your opponent likes to call, and quite loose, then you can feel comfortable about wagering a bet, knowing that they will probably call and make the draw.

If the table is tight, then you should also be more loose on the draws. By betting or raising on the flop, particularly if there is an Ace or King onboard, you give the impression that you have hit a draw, and this may cause some players to fold.

As for the times when you are the one making a flush draw, your Poker strategy should include avoiding predictability. For instance, if you constantly check and call on the flop, and then when the flush hits on the turn or river you make the big raise you will be read easily. Your opponents will fold quickly.

This tendency is conspicuous in online Poker, and you will often see a lot of other players make the same mistake over and over. Just because you have made the draw does not automatically signify you will win the big pot. You have to also make sure that it is revealed only at the proper time.

The best case for a draw in Poker is when you miss the flush but instead get the straight. In this scenario, your hand will be very concealed, making it virtually impossible to be read. Even if you raise and re raise, your opponents on the table will think that you are bluffing. They know you missed the flush, but will not realize that you have a straight in your hand.

Hiding the hands that you draw is a Poker strategy that you should employ whenever possible. It allows you to increase the pot size without having anyone noticing.

Of course, such a scenario is not always possible, but by studying your opponents, you will be able to make the proper decisions as to when to make the proper draw, providing you with the opportunity to win the pot.
